Boys County Novice - November 22nd 2009

On Sunday 22 November we competed at the first County Novice Championships for Boys which was held in the Forest of Dean. This was also the first competition for the boys, competing against gymnasts from all over the county. All the boys performed extremely well and we successfully bought home 2 Silver medals, and more importantly Cotswold Gymnastics Club now has a boys squad to be proud of and a clear path of development for the future. Well done to Laurence Bruce, Max Williams, Rudy Percival, Tom Laight, Ben Lawrence, Liam Caudle (Silver – Under 10 ) and Forrest Fry (Silver – Over 13).

The photo below shows all the gymnasts who competed and the proud medal winners! We need to also thank the family and friends who travelled to the Forest of Dean to support us and of course the coaches for all their hard work in getting the perfect floor routines, vaults and smiles!!

Well done to all the gymnasts you were fantastic!

Wiltshire Floor and Vault - October 11th 2009

Yet again in true Cotswold style we come away from yet another competition with lots of medals. This time it was Wiltshire Floor and Vault competition which was held at Wiltshire School of gymnastics in Melksham on the 11th October.

All the girls performed really well. Emma Hanley performed by far the best vault in her group and a beautiful floor routine which deserved a far higher score than was given. None the less she walked away with the gold medal with Katie 3rd, which was great as she has been suffering with injury this year, Georgia 5th and Megan 7th.

Laura Hallett and Annete beat stiff competition and grabbed the gold medals with Hannah Silver and Abbie 4th in their age groups. All were a little nervous of the vault but they needn't have been as they performed without any trouble.

Well done to those girls who performed floor routines for the first time to music, round off flics and to those who it was only their second competition! All in all a lovely, well organised competition with fantastic results..........well done gymnasts!!

Gloucester National Tumbling Competition - October 11th 2009

On Sunday 11 October Cotswolds Tumbling Team competed in their first National Team Tumbling Competition. Katie Mace, Sam Illing, Phoebe Restorick and Jessica Marriott took to the track, the team came 8th out of 17 teams and individually the girls held their own, Katie Mace scored 75.1 and came 24th out of 48 tumblers in the 8-11 age group. Sam, Phoebe and Jessica competed in the 12- 16 age group and scored 72.9 (31st), 48.2 (35th) and 75.5 (24th) out of 43 tumblers. The girls competed three tumbles each:

Well done girls, remarkable result for the tumbling teams first event!!

British Veterans - September 2009

The British Veterans Championships was held in Basingstoke on Saturday 19th September, Cotswold bringing home 10 medals and 6 new British champions. We must say a fantastic thank you to all our supporters, they did a brilliant job of keeping spirits up and cheering us on – even though they had to spend 4+ hours sat on a very uncomfortable wooden bench! County Competition - June 2009

Its that time again, the main event of our competition calendar, on Sunday 7 June we took 27 gymnasts to the County Competition in the Forest of Dean. On the day there were 137 gymnasts competing in 10 different categories and age groups from all over the county, this meant that some of the groups had nearly 20 gymnasts in it making the medals harder to win. However after hours of preparation and training the girls all performed brilliantly and were able to mirror the medal success of the past 2 years. In total the club took home 5 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals and 3 bronze medals, meaning we have 5 County Champions.

The photos below show all the gymnasts who competed and the proud medal winners! We need to also thank the family and friends who travelled to the Forest of Dean to support us and of course the coaches for all their hard work in getting the perfect floor routines, vaults and smiles!!

Well done to all the gymnasts you were fantastic!

Gloucestershire County Levels - April 2009

On Sunday 5 April Jessica Marriott and Sam Illing represented Cotswold Gymnastics Club at the Gloucestershire County Levels at Fromeside. This is the next level up from County Novice and only the second time the Club has entered any gymnasts. In true Cotswold style both girls performed brilliantly, Jessica performed a dynamic vault which secured her a second placing on vault and after a beautifully precise floor routine she secured first position on the floor, Jessica won a well deserved overall Gold becoming County Level 5 champion in the age 12/13+ age group. Samantha followed with a great vault and strong floor routine where she competed both a front and back somersault and secured third place on both apparatus, Sam proudly walked away with a Bronze medal in the 12/13+ County Level 4 group. The club was again complimented on the standard and quality of the girls work by other coaches - so well done girls a good start to the season!

National Tumbling Competition - March 2009

On Sunday 1st March, we took two of our Competition Squad members to the National Tumbling competition in Gloucester (we were very fortunate on the location as a lot of clubs had to travel a long way to compete). Sam Illing and Jessica Marriott competed in the 13+ age group (youngest in their category of 20 tumblers), they had three tumbles to compete:

  1. Front Somersault, two flics to rebound jump
  2. Four flics half turn jump
  3. Round off flic tuck back somersault
The girls were understandably nervous as we were unsure of what to expect however in true Cotswold Gym Club style they performed brilliantly with great results, Sam came 9th overall with a commendable high score on her tuck back and Jess came 6th overall, narrowly missing out on the highest score in the group on tumble #1 – Well done girls! This is a great result for us and the second National competition for the club in 6 months!!

Staying with tumbling each week the club is seeing more and more of its gymnasts on their way to ‘Flicking’ for the first time – well done to you all !!
